Nature Lab : Microscopic Investigations

Here are some microscopic images taken from the Nature Lab on Thursday.  It was interesting to see the cellular structure of the raw materials and compare those to other fibers that our processes are also applied to.  The flax and bagasse seem similar in structure, so felting the bagasse would be a good possibility.  The rice hull surprised me with the exterior texture it has.

Peabody Museum, Cambridge, MA

Just a few of the pieces I liked at the museum.  I think these three are particular interesting because they really take the material out of its natural form and manipulate it into a new material.
